LONG TERM CARE REPORTFOR NOVEMBER 2008 Hello all just wanted to let you know some of the issues we have been dealing with.  Must say, it has been busy.I will talk a little about the Labor Management Meeting we had October 30th, 2008.  We tend to have these meetings quarterly and bring up issues that have arisen over the past months.  Maple Health Centre will be trialing a new laundry system, whereas the nursing will no longer be doing the personal laundry, the housekeeping will now be doing this.  There have been issues in regards to the switching of shifts on an irregular basis, and this is fine, see article 15.16.  Also, I have had concerns regarding using hrs. of vacation, lieu time, you may use those but must try and be reasonable with employer, i.e. to use 1 hr. at the end of a shift, would be easier than using 1 hr. during the middle of your shift, we must be reasonable. Was brought to the table to work 12 hr. shifts at the ACL sites, but was suggested this wasn’t the right time, so we will look at this issue at a later date.  Activation staff will now be working stat’s. We are still trying the finalize leave for the Unit Vice-Chair of LTC, although it has been in practice for sometime, it still needs to be finalized. We have 2 cases going to Arbitration and I will keep you posted as to the out come.Just a reminder of our York Region/Long Term Care Meetings, they are the first Wednesday of every month, except July and August.  We also would like to see a steward or two for the Maple Health Centre if anyone is interested please contact me.  Training is provided…. I would like to take this time to wish all a safe and merry holiday Season.Talk to you in the New Year…… In SolidarityBev Blair Unit Vice-ChairL.T.C.
