Local 905 Educational Scholarship Policy Local 905 is committed to training and educational opportunities for our members as outlined in the Education and Training Policy. Additional to this the Local is committed to offering two annual Educational Scholarships for “members in good standing” of the Local who leave work to upgrade their education. These opportunities are as well extended to dependants (under the age of 25) of members continuing with a Post Secondary Education. The two annual scholarships are valued at $1500.00 each and are available for the first year attendance at any recognized University, Teachers College or Community College in the Province of Ontario. These Scholarships are in part in memory of Danette Bryant and Charles Goodwin who were both past Unit Chairpersons of Local 905. The Danette Bryant and Charles Goodwin Scholarships shall be awarded on the basis of graduation marks, aptitude, promise and need. Applications may be submitted to the Treasurer of the Local (on prescribed forms) between the periods of August 1st to October 15th of each calendar year. A recommendation from the Treasurer in consultation with the other Signing Officers shall be presented to the Executive Board for consideration and endorsement. The two scholarships will be awarded at the last regularly scheduled General Membership Meeting in the month of November. All applications to be considered must be fully completed and submitted within the specified time period which is August 1st to October 15th of each calendar year. Any discrepancies or issues arising from this approved policy shall be reported to the General Membership for review and possible amendment. Awarded Annually by CUPE Local 905
Two scholarships valued at $1500.00 each are available annually for the first year attendance at any recognized University, Teachers College or Community College in the Province of Ontario. Those eligible are: - Union members (in good standing with the Local) leaving work Full-time on an approved leave of absence to upgrade their education.
- Dependants (under the age of 25) of a member (in good standing with the local) continuing with a Post Secondary Education.
Basis of award is graduation marks, aptitude, promise and need. Applications must be on the prescribed form and must be received by the Treasurer of CUPE Local 905 no later than October 15th of each calendar year. All criteria must be adhered to in order for the application to be reviewed. The Treasurer will review all applications received for the period beginning August 1st and ending October 15th of each calendar year. A recommendation from the Treasurer in cooperation with the other Signing Officers will be presented to the Executive Committee for endorsement each year where applications exist to be reviewed. The two scholarships will be awarded at the last regularly scheduled General Membership Meeting the second Wednesday of the month of November.
