About Us Print

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is Canada’s largest Union. With more than a half million members across Canada, CUPE represents workers in Health Care, Education, Municipalities, Libraries, Universities, Social Services, Public Utilities, Transportation, Emergency Services and Airlines.

Local 905 is a large composite group consisting of some 4300 Members working in the Municipal, Library, Social Service, Paramedic and Long Term Care Sectors. We as a team, are committed to operating in an open and transparent manner with decision making completed in a democratic fashion. Our commitment extends beyond, but includes protecting the rights of our Members in the workplace and bargaining equitable collective agreements inclusive of good wages, benefits and general working conditions.

In many ways, CUPE Local 905 operates as a federation of local units, all with equal input at the Executive level. This provides a wide level of democracy and grassroots representation over many diverse sectors.

The local is composed of 21 bargaining units representing Members in 14 sub-units. Our contracted Employers include the; Region of York, City of Vaughan, Town of Markham, Town of Georgina, Township of King, Town of Newmarket, Town of Richmond Hill, Town of Aurora, Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Town of New Tecumseth.
