MEMBERSHIP
To be considered a “member in good standing” of Local 905, Bargaining Unit Employees are encouraged to take the oath of the Union. This can be done at either a General Membership meeting (Newmarket) or at sub-unit meetings which are held at various locations across York Region. The oath as stated below outlines a commitment to a set of values and beliefs supported by CUPE and Local 905.
“ I solemnly promise and declare that I will support and obey the Constitution of this Union; that I will strive to improve economic and social conditions for my fellow members and for working people generally; that I will defend and strive to extend the democratic rights and liberties of all working people; that I will not purposely or knowingly wrong, or assist others in wronging a member of the Union.”
“Member in good standing” status entitles members to participate in and vote on matters relating to the work we do as Union Activists. Additionally, good standing status allows members to participate in union training and educational courses and also creates the opportunity for members to make candidacy for elected Union positions. A Union card will be issued by the Local once the oath of the Union has been taken.
For more information on becoming a “member in good standing” contact your Unit Representative or refer to the “Contact Us” section of the 905 Website.
