Richmond Hill and its striking municipal workers are going back to the bargaining table.

Two weeks into a work stoppage with no end in sight, the 200 members of Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 905 in Richmond Hill accepted the city’s offer on Thursday, Dec. 5, of talks with a third-party mediator.

The timing for negotiations hasn’t been released, but a spokesperson for CUPE 905 president Katherine Grzejszczak said a first meeting is being scheduled “as soon as possible.”

“We hope the city is sincere about coming back with an offer that recognizes our need for a fair wage so we can settle the strike and resume full city services for Richmond Hill residents,” she wrote on Friday.
