Picket lines went up outside Richmond Hill municipal buildings Friday as city workers in Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 905 began a strike.
The union said the city did not present a deal that met the needs of its 200 members in talks before a deadline of 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 22.
“We sincerely apologize to the residents of Richmond Hill that will see service disruptions,” a CUPE 905 spokesperson said in a message.
The city said it is “working to minimize any effect of the strike” on its residents and businesses while working toward a negotiated agreement.
